andie erin cīrulis (b. 1991) lives in philadelphia, pennsylvania. she sometimes helps other people decide which sounds to make, even though she personally does not like sounds very much at all. andie holds a bachelor of music degree from temple university, where she studied composition with matthew greenbaum.
andie’s current work tends to revolve around themes of breath and utterance, and is continually concerned with a sonics of trans feminine embodiment. the sounds andie tells people to make are generally very quiet, and they do not happen very often. andie likes it very much when nothing happens.
andie is not sure how she feels about the statements that she writes “music” or is a “composer.” in a recent conversation about this, a friend suggested that andie is an “applied mumbler.” andie likes to say that she writes lung sounds.
